Maritime Rattery's FANCY RAT DIET

There are so many types of rats out there that come in many markings and colors, I never knew there were so many until one day I found out there was a hairless.
I decided to find out about the hairless because I thought they looked pretty neat and I wanted to know everything I could about them before getting into them. I found out alot more then just the hairless I found out that there were dalmatian, veriegated, siamese, hooded, masked, possum faced, capped, berkshire, bare back, huskey, and so many more markings, I was very interested in rats then. There are so many people out there like myself that didn't even know they existed. I got to know alot about them and what great pets they make, I have young kids and I wouldn't want a pet that they couldn't be safe with so I thought a rat would be great for them. My husband was against owning rats and finally gave in. Well one day I went to a pet store and looked at what they had. There was this older rat that kept coming over to see me. I couldn't wait to get my first fancy rat but I couldn't resist her she was just too friendly. I never had a clue about rats before I bought her and then I fell in love, they are just so loving and always ready to see you and cuddle or play. I then found out she was pregnant and getting bigger each day, wow I buy one rat and will end up with lots in a short time. The pet store said they would take the babies in if I couldn't find homes for them. Which was a weight off my back, which I ended up doing I did keep one of her daughters to keep her company because rats shouldn't live alone.

They are just so smart, it took one day and she was litter trained. One day I put some soy milk in a tall jar for her to drink but her nose kept touching the milk first before her tongue. She took no time to figure out how to get the milk, she scooped it up in her little hands and drank from them I sat there amased, wow. Well the kids loved her and she was so gentle with them and not trying to run away she just stayed on them and let them pet her, she just loved it. I had hamsters growing up and you could never have them just sit on you and enjoy a petting they were always on the run. Well my husband fell in love with them too, I will be out shopping and come back to find him holding the rats and talking to them. He likes the idea that they won't poop or pee on him so he is ok with them on him.

I decided to get into breeding after learning alot about rats. I want other people to have the same opportunity of owning such a wonderful pet and to be able to have these different markings you don't see every day. I want to change lots of peoples thoughts on rats, they are not going to bite you, they are not stinky or ugly and they are very smart. I want to breed for temperment and healthy rats along with really neat markings and all the different coats that they can come in. I would like to work on having them live longer too.

It took me a long time to get the rats I want for breeding, rats that are very healthy, have wonderful temperments and have the colors I wanted. Well the rex, teddy rex, and velveteen came as a bonus.

I had alot of enemies at first and may still have some mostly because they wanted me to keep these types of rats rare and hard to get. But I thought why, I never knew they existed before and if I did I probably would of had rats all my life. I missed out on a great pet and owned hamsters instead that bit and didn't want anything to do with me in the day, they just wanted to sleep. Don't get me wrong I do still like hamsters I think they are pretty cute, but will never own one again now that I had rats.

Rats are kinda like a ferret except they don't bite or stink. I use to own a ferret and how they ran around and played is very simular to a rat when you play with them with your hand.
I heard of someone saying that a rat could play with you and I thought what do these people mean play with a rat, HOW? Well I found out for my self once I got babies you just use your hand as a rat and run your hand around and touch the babies they will bounce away and shake their head and come back for you to touch them again and then take off running around their cage like a goof making you laugh like crazy. It is so cute early in the morning my youngest daughter gets up (me still in bed) you can hear her talking to the rats and then you hear all this laughing, you know that they are playing with her and being goofy. They love to make kids laugh!!
I guess I take after my grandmother for my love of animals, she had every animal you could think of but never had rats, well she had the big wild ones that lived with her against her wishes but they were NOT PETS. This is what started my mother on a fobia against rats until she met my crew and seen the kids play with them, it changed her out look on rats. She is not freaked out about them no more and is now able to pick them up, put them to her chest and pet them, even had a kiss that one of my rats snuck in.
I have always loved having animals around and I couldn't think of a better job then what I do now, I can be a stay at home mom and do something I love. I don't make much money doing it, I end up spend more on them then I make but it is worth it to me.

I decided on the name Maritime Rattery for the company name, which suited me best because I sell mostly to the Maritimes.
I picked the color orange for the map because it is one of the most beautiful colors we get here in the fall. You don't really appreciate them until you live away to a place where they don't get all the beautiful fall colors they have here, until you come back and see them all. I never appreciated them before like I do now.

So here I am Cerreina Trevors, a breeder of the fancy rats in Truro Nova Scotia Canada.

I don't have every color or markings in rats, but you can get an idea of what I do carry on past litters page.
